Our daughter Líadán
Vicky Wall's daughter Líadán, was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 while still in the womb
"Líadán is our precious daughter. Her short life taught us all so much about love & family and about what’s important in life."

In February 2014, Vicky Wall found out that she was pregnant.
At her 23 week scan, the nurse found something unusual and called the Doctor. The baby had an excessive amount of amniotic fluid and was showing signs of a genetic disorder. She was referred to a specialist in a Dublin hospital, there received the prenatal diagnosis of Trisomy 18.
She was told her baby was “incompatible with life”, Vicky responded saying “She is compatible with me!” The Doctor suggested she could “pop over to England”.
She looked up “Trisomy 18” on her phone and found out about the condition, she read about cases were the baby would survive outside of the womb.
Michael and Vicky decided to name their daughter “Líadán” meaning “the grey lady” in Gaelic. On 17th August 2014, at 32 weeks Vicky delivered her little baby girl, who was born sleeping. Vicky and Michael named their little girl, Líadán.

TRISOMY 18 or EDWARD's SYNDROME arises because of the presence of an extra chromosome. There is a significant risk of miscarriage before birth, but, quite contrary to recent reporting, studies have found that the average duration of survival for children who lived until birth with Trisomy 18 was 14.5 days; with 39% of babies surviving for more than a month, while 8.4% survived for more than a year.
